As President of the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons, I welcome you to our web site.

 

Commonly asked questions are "What is Plastic Surgery?" and "Why is it called Plastic Surgery?" Plastikos is a Greek term, which means to create, to form, or to reconstruct. Although most people understand that plastic surgeons perform cosmetic (aesthetic) surgery, many still do not know that Canadian Plastic Surgeons actually spend a large part of their time repairing the damage caused by accidents and diseases of the hand such as carpal tunnel syndrome, and that we perform most of the hand surgery in Canada. We also perform many types of operations on the breast such as reconstruction after breast cancer and breast reduction.

 

Plastic surgeons rebuild bones and soft tissue of legs and other body parts after devastating accidents and cancer surgery. We also treat a very large number of Canadians who get skin cancer. Canadian Plastic Surgeons repair all types of facial defects such as cleft lips of unfortunate children born with deformities. These and many other rebuilding aspects of Plastic Surgery have led to the name Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, which we proudly perform for Canadians and for other less fortunate people abroad on a volunteer basis.
