Botox Cosmetic®

Botox Cosmetic® est une protéine purifiée produite par la bactérie clostridium botulinum. Depuis 1999, Botox est utilisé sans effets secondaires graves dans le traitement des rides.

 

Une petite quantité de toxine botulinique est injectée directement dans les muscles qui créent les rides et autres effets musculaires indésirables. Le traitement est rapide et d'une durée d'environ trois à six mois. Le muscle qui cause les rides étant temporairement désactivé par la toxine, les sillons disparaissent ou bien sont diminués de façon dramatique. Cet effet de lissage devient perceptible après quelques jours.

 

Les régions les plus souvent traitées par le botox sont : les pattes d'oie, le front et le pourtour de la bouche. On obtient également une amélioration dramatique à l'aide d'une injection de toxine pour affaiblir les muscles responsables du sourire gingival. L'injection dans les muscles qui tirent vers le bas les sourcils ou les coins de la bouche produiront un lifting temporaire de ces régions.

 

Après le premier traitement, des injections de suivie pourront se faire. Certains médecins ont remarqué qu'au bout de plusieurs traitements, les effets de Botox Cosmetic® se prolongent, même de plusieurs de mois.

 

Les complications dues aux injections de botox à la paupière supérieure comprennent parfois les ecchymoses et un affaissement temporaire de la paupière, ce qui ne se produit que rarement suite à l'injection de la région glabellaire. Le produit est injecté en très petites quantités et ne se répand pas dans le corps; il est donc possible de reprendre immédiatement ses activités normales.

 

Presque tout le monde peut utiliser Botox Cosmetique® mais les patients enceintes, qui allaitent ou qui souffrent de troubles neurologiques devraient s'en abstenir.

 

De nouvelles applications de la toxine botulinique comprennent la réduction de la transpiration excessive des mains ou des aisselles (hyperhydrose) et le traitement des maux de tëte.
