La plupart des grains de beauté, kystes et autres imperfections de la peau sont
bénignes. Les grains de beauté (ou naevus) sont des lésions sans danger et leur
transformation en mélanome est exceptionnelle. On doit cependant soupçonner
cette transformation en cas de modification de l'apparence d'un grain de beauté
et pratiquer alors l'ablation (ou exérèse) de la lésion. Les changements dans un
grain de beauté à surveiller comprennent : une bordure irrégulière ; une coloration
non homogène ; mêlant le brun, le noir, et/ou le rouge ; un relief irrégulier ; une
augmentation progressive de taille.

Souvent on recherchera l’ablation des lésions
uniquement pour améliorer l’apparence de la
peau.

La majorité des techniques utilisées pour
enlever les grains de beauté et autres lésions
de la peau s’effectuent en peu de temps et
peuvent être pratiquées en cabinet.

Les techniques d’exérèse les plus courantes
sont l’excision à ras la surface ou l’excision en
profondeur avec fermeture de l’incision par
points de sutures (exérèse complète).

Le rasage en surface au scalpel est une technique employée pour traiter les
lésions qui dépassent la peau. La peau gelée à l'aide d'une anesthésie locale, la
lésion est enlevée.  Si la lésion était purement superficielle, aucune trace n'en
demeurera alors qu'une petite tache blanche subsistera si elle était plus profonde.

La biopsie excisionnelle est indiquée dans le
cas d’une lésion profonde telle un kyste ou un
naevus profond.

La lésion enlevée en profondeur et l’incision
fermée à l’aide de points de suture, la cicatrice
qui en résulte aura le plus souvent l’apparence
d’une ligne blanche très fine bien qu’elle puisse
être plus apparente si la lésion était très large
ou dans le cas d’une guérison anormale.

Dans le cas d’une lésion au visage, le
chirurgien pourrait utiliser des points de suture
très fins en surface et des points fondants
sous la peau.

L’ablation permanente du poil dru qui pousse parfois dans un grain de beauté est
obtenue de préférence par l’excision en profondeur.

Il existe d’autres techniques pour enlever les imperfections de la peau : la
cautérisation, le laser ou l’azote liquide. Votre plasticien vous informera de la
meilleure façon d’enlever ces imperfections disgracieuses.
